Tascam, the company that pioneered the personal multi-track cassette recorder, continues its foray into the digital realm with the DP-01FX, an inexpensive 8-track personal hard disk recorder with a built-in 40GB hard drive and a familiar, musician-friendly, analog-style work surface.

The DP-01FX offers a dedicated fader, pan knob, effects send knob, and a pair of EQ knobs for each of the 8 mixer channels, ensuring a minimal to nil learning curve, and a quick, immediate recording process for the inspired, or merely impatient, songwriter. The front of the unit provides a pair of XLR microphone inputs with switchable phantom power and independent level controls. A switchable Hi-Z instrument input is also available.

The DP-01FX is equipped with two built-in effects processors: the first is a multi-effects type for assignment to indivdual recording tracks, and the second is a set of reverbs for sweetening the stereo mix. The digital editing features are straightforward, practical, and logically presented for easy navigation.
