Dictionarium Latino-Hungaricum-Dictionarium Ungaro-Latinum Germanicum - Two works

Thick 8vo (23x15 cm; 8 cm thick) - [16],710,[1],406,[120] pages. - At thee nd of the second work, there is a separately ttiled section "Deutsches Repertorium als nothwendiger Anhang zu dem ungarisch-lateinisch-deutschen Worterbuche des Pariz Papai (120 unnumbered pages). -- Contemporary full calf, with 8 bands and decorations in gilt on spine, with title in gilt on black leather label; red-and-green marbled endpapers. With small (2x4 cm) paper label on upper left corner of front cover [printed: K. k. akad. Gymn, Wien; and in old ink handwritten:"3009 (crossed out), 2891". - On title-page, small circular green stamp: "K.K.Akademisches Gymnasium", with a superimposed release stamp. - Both the binding and interior are fine. - Papai Pariz (1649-1716) was a renowned scholar (studied at Nagyenyed, Breslau, Frankfurt-am-Oder, Marburg and also in Heidelberg, where he received his doctoral degree He also studied and obtained a medical degree in Basel. After a brief medical practice, he received an offer, at age 30, of professorship at Nagyenyed, where he taught Greek, Philosophy and Natural Sciences for almost 40 years. - This famous great dictionary of his was based, partly, on the work of Albert Szenczi Molnar. It was first published in Leutsovia [Locse ,Lleutschau - now Levoca, Slovakia] in 1708, based partly on the early work of Albert Szenczi Molnar. It was republished, with enlargements by Peter Bod, in 176*******1772, and 1801.
