"This is a very rare piece by Norwegian silversmith Henrik Moller, done in the Dragestil style of the Scandinavian Arts & Crafts movement. The Dragestil movement was a resurgence of Viking and Medieval motifs and styles, originating in Norway in the late 1800's. On the reverse of this brooch it is engraved "COPY OF BROOCH FROM 5TH CENTURY A.D." I haven't been able to locate the original brooch this was copied from but it certainly fits with the early Medieval decorative style from this region--and it was nice of Henrik to give credit! Featuring tentacles from a sea creature? A serpent perhaps? "
